Stereotyped 101 at Kutztown University

On October 4th, Kutztown University YAL hosted Karith Foster and her program Stereotyped 101. This program touched on the challenges that we create by not being understanding of one another. She made the program entertaining and purposeful by explaining her own life experiences. She talked about how we need to realize that we may not know where another person is coming from, and how our words may affect them. She told us that truly listening to what another person is saying allows you to be courteous and respectful. Staying aware of the people and culture around you makes it easy to be a caring and responsible individual. Her message, overall, helped viewers to understand that through individual responsibility we can create a society we are all happy to be a part of, and censoring speech only pushed us backwards in a civilized and prosperous society.
