N.B. Apologies for this report’s delay — we had some technical difficulties with the post.
Texas State Young Americans for Liberty chapter started out our recruitment drive with the Operation Politically Homeless Quiz on January 25th and 26th in our Free Speech Area on campus.
Then, we advertised our YAL Texas State chapter at the Student Organization Fair on Jan 31st and Feb 1st using the Operation Politically Homeless Quiz. We actively recruited several new students into the liberty movement and had new recruits volunteering for tabling.
For National Crony Capitalism Day (ie. Valentine’s Day), the YAL Texas State Chapter handed out Crony Capitalism literature on February 14th and 15th while attracting attention for our local chapter.
Our recruitment drive culminated with a big success on February 23rd with guest speaker Russ Jones. Texas State YAL Chapter hosted guest speaker Russ Jones to speak about what he believes to be a failed U.S. Policy toward narcotics prohibition. Mr. Jones is a retired Narcotics detective and a speaker for LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition). He has dedicated 40 years and witnessed the Iran/ contra scandal first-hand.
Russ Jones’ event packed the room. His presentation attracted news outlets such as the Texas State’s University Star and will be featured in the paper next week. In addition, the entire event was recorded and will be posted to our chapter’s YAL Facebook page. This event collaborated with two student organization groups SSDP (Students for Sensible Drug Policy) and NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws).
