The Cal State University, Long Beach (CSULB) student publication, “Daily 49er”, published an article in November 2017 titled, “Conservative and Liberal Students Find their Voice at CSULB.” Although the title presented an initially unifying tone, the subtitle was not as settling: “A battle between conservative and liberal expression increasingly plays out on college campuses” (Daily 49er, 2017). Students from Turning Point USA (TPUSA) and Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) Long Beach chapters were interviewed and quoted within the text, and the article tied in Milo Yiannopoulos’s speech at Cal State Fullerton’s (CSUF) on October 31st, 2017 to further the notion of perpetual action by the political-right on college campuses. But what does this “battle” entail if students possess rich political thought in their arsenal, but have no where to employ it?

Students on college campuses are constantly made aware of bouts of nominal political controversy. They hear about College Democrats tabling across from “that one Liberty group,” but what does that actually represent? Students are far too content with the histrionic display of such extreme political polarization. Because of this, Young American’s for Liberty’s dedication to winning on principle is more important than ever before, as students on campus have begun to inquire just what it is they’re supposed to be fighting for.
Upon realizing that liberty applies to everyone, right or left, students allow liberty to become a unifying principle that is not easily disturbed by individual agendas.

On the contrary, the philosophy of liberty is possessing and securing these individual rights, so that those that dwell within American society can live freely and pursue happiness. With the help of liberty-loving students across the nation, we can #makelibertywin on college campuses.
Young Americans for Liberty, Long Beach focuses on educating students on the history and significance of liberty, and equipping students to articulately express their ideas in private and public settings.
