The High Cost of Higher Ed and Spring Semester Planning — Full Speed Ahead at UW-Madison!

UW-Madison’s YAL Chapter finished out the fall semester with an informative YAL U talk with Richard Vedder, a distinguished Professor of Economics Emeritus at Ohio University. Professor Vedder also authored the book, “Going Broke by Degree: Why College Costs Too Much.” He discussed several reasons for the rising cost of higher education, and sparked a great discussion among attendees on potential solutions to the problem.

While sporting The Center for College Affordability & Productivity flag in the background, Professor Vedder pointed out the impact that federal student loans have had on tuition rates, and how important it is to uproot this fiscally unsustainable trend.

Thanks to our chapter’s Director of Outreach, Lucas Nicholson, and Midwest Regional Director, Creighton Harrington, for working hard to put on such a great event!

As spring semester approaches here at UW-Madison, our executive meeting is fast approaching. Thanks to a group filled with great ideas, we’re already solidifying plans for an awesome semester, with a wide variety of topics where we can raise awareness.

Wisconsin will also be hosting a YAL 2014 State Convention, too! Be sure mark your calendar for March 22, and sign up through YAL National’s website to enjoy a fantastic weekend in Madison with some of your favorite liberty activists!
