On 4/20, the Young Americans for Liberty chapter at Syracuse University held a panel on the economic, medical, and social impacts of the War on Drugs. Around 80 individuals attended the event, mainly students and those from the surrounding community.
CEO of Students for Liberty, Wolf von Laer, moderated the event, giving a very interesting perspective throughout, specifically playing devil’s advocate. Jeff Deist gave a much more analytical view of the War of Drugs, diving into prisoner costs and other economic impacts the War on Drugs creates. Julie Borowski and Liberty Memes both gave interesting insights on the morality of the War on Drugs, while also adding in their distinctive humors.
Afterwards, the Onondaga County Libertarian Party hosted a social at Aster Pantry. YAL members from Syracuse and upstate New York received the opportunity to personally meet some of their liberty role-models. Students were able to sit down with Julie Borowski, Jeff Deist, Wolf Von Laer, and Liberty Memes and discuss in further detail the War on Drugs, or learn more about how they can get more involved within the liberty movement. Overall, Syracuse YAL’s first major event of the year was a great success!
