U.S. Sending 1,000 More Troops to Iraq

So much for the new president drawing down the War in Iraq:

Though the Iraq War has long since become an after-thought amid Obama Administration claims that the “drawdown” in on track, the Pentagon is reporting today that Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has approved a request to send about 1,000 additional troops to Iraq.

The latest report comes less than a week after it was revealed that the Pentagon has added thousands of additional contractors to Iraq, ostensibly to replace US troops during the drawdown.

So that’s pretty much awesome, especially while we strike in Somalia, seriously consider stronger sanctions/a military strike in Iran, add troops to the increasingly unpopular War in Afghanistan, and have a president who is seeking an extension of the PATRIOT Act (with civil rights provisions only if they “don’t weaken” his power).  I’m sure there are some other horrific things going on in U.S. foreign policy right now, but I wouldn’t want to fill this entire blog with just one post.
