The YAL chapter at the University of Kentucky participated in events at K-Week (a week-long event on campus mainly attended by freshman). We set up at Campus Ruckus, we are UK, and the Student Involvement Fair, and Fusion. Our chapter picked up a lot of momentum with signups at these events.
We were getting people involved at Campus Ruckus with the world’s smallest political quiz and by setting up a game of Bear Pong to educate students about their share of the national debt. Sign-ups were going well until it started pouring rain!
At the Student Involvement Fair we had a good table location at the corner of the event. The nature of this event let us reach out to more students than other K-Week events.
The Student Involvement Fair was more inviting to all students because it was set up in a high traffic area of campus during classes. The only downside to this event was that most people who stopped to talk didn’t have much time, because they were on their way to class, so we planned to use brief talking points.
At fusion, our own Michael Frazier attended and partnered with the UK College of Law, OUTsource, the Honors Program, Students for Liberty, the Rugby Team, GSA, and other groups to volunteer at Gay and Lesbian Services Organization to give back to the community.
Since K-Week, our chapter has been having regular meetings and planning events. We are looking forward to a great semester!Published in
