Unions excited over Obama’s pick for labor secretary

Today Obama announced that his secretary of labor is going to be Democratic Rep. Hilda Solis, which apparently has the unions celebrating. Now, I don’t know the slightest thing about Rep. Solis, but if her selection has the unions in a good mood we should all be in a bad one. According to this CNN article she said she, “will work to strengthen our unions.”

She was also described as a “champion of the labor movement, a staunch environmentalist, and an ardent feminist…” And I think it was supposed to be a complement. And if you don’t believe me when I say that this is a bad thing,  I strongly urge you to read this chapter on unions from Henry Hazlitt’s Economics in One Lesson.
