University of Maine Generation of War Event: The Cost of War

On Wednesday, March 27th, the University of Maine’s chapter of Young Americans for Liberty held our Generation of War event.  The tabling event displayed to students the cost of war which totaled it in lost lives, lost liberties and lost money.

No sooner had we set up our table, we had a student come over and show interest in what we were doing, enthusiastically signing up to become a part of the group.

After about an hour of tabling, an Army ROTC cadet came over interested in our take on the wars overseas.  A great discussion ensued where we found a lot of common ground on foreign policy and the conduct of war.  During the discussion, the cadet commented on some Sen. Rand Paul quotes we had on our poster, saying: “I think Rand Paul is a f@#%!*& genus!”

One of the highlights of the day, other than the Sen. Paul comment, was having a veteran, and fellow YAL member, in attendance, bringing awareness to the true cost of America’s overseas intervention.

All in all, it was a great event and a great day.  We signed up several new individuals, had a chance to talk with some interested individuals and add to the political dialogue on campus!
