The day after a debate with Howard Dean, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill chapter of YAL hosted John Stossel for a taping of “Stossel” on Fox Business Channel. The episode will air TONIGHT Thursday September 27th, on Fox Business. Be sure to tune in!
Everyone at UNC YAL did a fantastic job organizing and promoting the event. We even got the chance to speak with Stossel and pick his brain backstage before the show.
David Deerson, President of UNC YAL, and Derek Spicer, formerly of NC State YAL, were both featured in a segment about speech codes on college campuses and successful attempts to ensure they are aligned with first-amendment rights. Guests in other segments included Robert Shibley of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education and Paul Sherman of the Institute for Justice. Though the show’s focus was on issues relevant to all students nationwide, The Young Americans for Liberty were mentioned at least four times during taping (we’ll see what happens in the edit room).
The club even got some media attention afterwards from the Daily Tarheel. Overall, it was a great day for our club and a great chance to promote liberty on campus and (in this case) nationwide. Tune in tonight!
