When Jared Meyer Discusses Innovation and Government Regulation at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater

YAL-Whitewater had the pleasure of hosting guest speaker Jared Meyer, who is a senior research fellow at the Foundation for Government Accountability, a senior fellow at the Beacon Center of Tennessee, as well as an author of several books. Jared has testified before various congressional committees, his research has been published in outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, and he is a member of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 for Law and Policy. His presentation was an incredible experience for not only our chapter, but several other students who stopped by to listen. Jared’s presentation focused on innovation and how technology is making government regulation unnecessary. He raised several good points many of us had never considered such as why we don’t need the government regulating licensing in occupations such as floristry. After his presentation, we all got to ask Jared questions and he gave out copies of his short book How Progressive Cities Fight Innovation which was a fantastic read. Not only did Jared’s presentation give us a fantastic libertarian outlook on innovation, but it also showed us what a career revolving around libertarianism looks like. Jared has built a fantastic career around studying the economic effects of government policy and comparing them to his own libertarian viewpoint and it was incredible to see just how well he has done. As always, YAL-Whitewater will continue working towards our goal of making liberty win.
