Young Americans for Liberty at Saint Petersburg College continued with its recruitment efforts for spring semester during a quad event held for African American History Month (AAHM).
YAL at SPC has not had its first meeting yet. This tabling event helped reach out to the student population and inform them of YAL on campus. We had our Nolan map display and clipboards with the ‘World’s Smallest Political Quiz’ ready. Many students and faculty recognized Dr. Ron Paul’s face at the top of the chart and came to take the test.
Students came from many organizations, and backgrounds; quite a diverse showing and interest in Young Americans for Liberty and the idea of a smaller government. Students from traditional left and right ideologies asked for more information on being libertarian and when and where to show up for our next meeting.
Flyers were handed out explaining the date and location of our meeting next week and the guest speaker. The YAL chapter at St Petersburg College will have its first meeting on Wednesday, February 11. Our first speaker, Lucas Overby, is a libertarian political activist and community organizer, he ran against David Jolly for Florida’s 13th congressional district seat. Mr. Overby will attend and give a speech about liberty for our first meeting.
Many of the students that interacted with us were very eager to hear more and signed up for more information and to possibly join the chapter. Since it’s so young the current focus of our YAL chapter is on further tabling and recruitment to grow the liberty-movement.
