This year our YAL chapter at the University of Alabama at Birmingham had tremendous recruitment success in what I would call possibly one of the best Recruitment Drives in our chapter’s history. To kick off our recruitment drive, we participated in our school’s Student Life Day Organization/Department Expo on the campus green. We had a table set up for two hours, and in just that little amount of time, signed up over sixty people on our mailing list!
With help from the tabling kits we received from Young Americans for Liberty and Students for Liberty, we had plenty of free materials to go around. An abundance of bumper stickers, pins, palm cards, and copies of Why Liberty were a hit with everyone who stopped by our table.
Later that evening, we invited everyone out to an informal meet and greet at a local pizzeria. This gave the new recruits an opportunity to meet our new all-female leadership team and some regular members, learn more about the organization on a national and local level, and enjoy some delicious food and drinks with us.
The success of this semester’s first tabling effort can be attributed to how we branded ourselves. Although we have earned the title of “most politically active group on campus,” we managed to gain interest from a seemingly un-political student body. We marketed it as an activism club, and since everyone loves liberty, at least one aspect of our organization appealed to each individual who stopped by our table. To plan for future events, we polled students to see what current issues they would most like to talk about. We couldn’t be happier with how this fall semester has begun and we look forward to advancing liberty at UAB!Published in
