While the University of Illinois at Chicago held commencement ceremonies this past weekend, Young Americans for Liberty is just getting started on the 28,000-student campus just west of the loop in downtown Chicago. Throughout spring semester, YAL YIC President Nico Rios and I tabled on campus, distributing YAL materials and building an email list. Finally, at the end of the semester we hosted a kick-off meeting, where I provided information about the philosophy of liberty and Rios organizing members for future meetings.
Now that the group has recognition from Young Americans for Liberty and will be gaining recognition from the school in September, we will be able to participate in the club fair to recruit new members and receive activism resources from the YAL national office. Although he is graduating, Rios plan to stay in Chicago and will be helping YAL kick off the fall semester both via tabling and activism events.
