On Monday, August 29th, YAL at the University of New Mexico hosted Adam Kokesh as a part of his nationwide “Freedom” tour. Kokesh spoke to a crowd consisting of a mixture of college students and local Libertarian Party members. As native New Mexican, Kokesh made sure UNM was an early stop on his tour as he explores a potential presidential bid in 2020 on the platform of dissolving the Federal government. He opened the event with local liberty leaders talking about the party and the movement at a local level. Our YAL chapter’s own Canon Post, the groups president-elect, took his turn to talk about YAL and the extraordinary work we have done on campus. After exciting the crowd, Post introduced Kokesh and the event began.
Kokesh spoke at length about his ten-year journey from his naive high school days to his military service, and then his civil disobedience. He equipped audience members with important knowledge about reaching out to those who have not yet awakened to the liberty movement, and talked about the importance of the coming years. YAL at UNM recruited several future members at the event and will continue its momentum as the semester starts up. With Constitution Week on the horizon, it’s looking like a good Fall for liberty.
