On Monday, October 14, the University of South Florida held a conference on sustainable energy, featuring speakers from various disciplines discussing topics related to the subject matter. IDEA, or InterDisciplinary Exchange in Action, brought together students, researchers, and business professionals to educate attendees about environmental issues.
YAL @ USF was extended the opportunity to give our take on environmentalism at this event as well, and I was given the honors of being our representative. My speech consisted of a thorough overview of the free-market environmentalist thought, drawing on the ideas of Dr. Walter Block, Dr. Mark Pennington, among many others. With my presentation I hoped to show that a system property rights, free markets, and tort law could provide better solutions to our ongoing ecological problems than any government regulation ever could.
