You may have to pay for someone’s prayer…

According to the Washington Post, senators John Kerry and Orrin Hatch are trying to pass an amendment into the proposed health care bill.  Senator Kerry’s spokeswoman said the Amendment would:

“prevent insurers from discriminating against benefits that qualify as spiritual care if the care is recognized by the IRS as a legitimate medical expense. Plans are free to impose standards on spiritual and medical care as long as both are treated equally. It does not mandate that plans provide spiritual care.”

In other words, Kerry and Hatch want to make insurers cover prayer costs and other “spiritual health care” in the same manner as they cover actual medical procedures.
