End the Bias shutdowns at UNF!

YAL activist Emma MacCutheon was gathering petition signatures on campus to advocate for an amended weapons policy that promotes self-defense for students. During this time, administrators approached Emma and demanded that she leave campus, despite the fact that pro-Palestine protestors were actively demonstrating nearby without interference. Emma was exercising her right to petition and record the interaction when administrators asked her to delete the video. She stood her ground, defending her right to document public servants’ actions.

This discriminatory treatment, where one group is allowed to remain while another is silenced, reveals a troubling pattern of viewpoint discrimination at UNF. Students should not fear being singled out or removed simply because their opinions differ from those of the administration. We call on the university to uphold the First Amendment and ensure that all students, regardless of their viewpoints, can exercise their rights without interference.

President Szymanski, we urge you to take immediate action to end this biased enforcement and commit to protecting free expression for all students at UNF.
