End the Pepper Spray Ban at Boulder!

In Colorado, it is currently legal to carry pepper aerosol sprays.

In the UC Boulder Campus Policy “Weapons on campus,” it is stated.
“The possession of firearms, explosives, or other dangerous or illegal weapons on any property owned, leased, or controlled by the CU Boulder campus is prohibited, except as exempted or authorized by this policy. A harmless instrumentality designed to look like a firearm, explosive, or dangerous or illegal weapon that is used by or is in the possession of a person with the intent to cause fear in or assault to another person is expressly included within this prohibition. In addition, due to the potential for confusion and perception of threat and subsequent disruption caused by their presence, prop or replica firearms, explosives, or dangerous or illegal weapons shall not be brought to campus unless exempted under this policy.”

According to the policy this is a policy set forth by the Colorado Board of Regents. The regents are supposed to be there to help the student body thrive, not prevent self-defense against horrible acts like sexual assault and theft.

According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, 1 in every five women and 1 in every 16 men are sexually assaulted at college.

Students should be allowed to carry the tools necessary to protect themselves should dangerous situations arise. I hereby petition Callie Rennison and the Colorado Board of Regents to amend campus policy and allow the student body at 18 or older to carry pepper aerosol spray for self-defense purposes.
