Make Meal Plans Voluntary at Worcester State University

The mandatory meal plan undermines our dietary needs, diminishes our overall satisfaction and health, and costs us exorbitant sums of money.

Students are paying up to $18 for a single meal swipe, which is outrageous given the quality and variety of food offered. Prices range from a low of $2,103 to a high of $2,315 per semester, forcing resident students to pay at least $16,824 over four years.

The options available for those with dietary restrictions, such as celiacs, vegans, and those with dairy allergies, are severely limited. This lack of accommodation is unacceptable. Even students without specific dietary restrictions complain about the limited choices, inconvenient hours, and subpar quality of the food provided.

We demand the end of mandatory meal plans for all students. All students should be permitted to opt out of purchasing a meal plan, allowing them the freedom to choose dining options that best meet their personal and dietary needs. It’s time for the administration to listen to the voices of the student body and implement a more flexible and fair dining policy.

The mandatory meal plan undermines our dietary needs, diminishes our overall satisfaction and health, and costs us exorbitant sums of money. Students are paying up to $18 for a single meal swipe! Prices range from a 'low' of $2,103 to a high of $2,315 per semester. Resident students are required to pay at least $16,824 over four years! The options available for those with dietary restrictions, such as celiacs, vegans, and those with dairy allergies are very limited, and even students without restrictions complain about the limited options, limited hours, and poor quality of the food. I hereby petition to end mandatory meal plans for all students so that all students are permitted to opt out of purchasing a meal plan.
