We, the undersigned, students, faculty, and citizens of Oklahoma, call upon the Oklahoma State Legislature to pass legislation that allows for True Campus Carry—defined as permitless carry in all possible areas of campus at public colleges and universities. This petition supports the upcoming bill introduced by a dedicated member of the Hazlitt Coalition, part of the legislative arm of Young Americans for Liberty, the American Action Fund, in the next legislative session.
In Oklahoma, campus carry is largely restricted by state law, preventing law-abiding citizens from exercising their Second Amendment rights on college campuses. Title 21, Oklahoma Statutes, Section 1277, prohibits any person with a valid handgun license from carrying a firearm on public or private school property, including universities, unless specifically authorized by the institution. Similarly, Oklahoma Statutes, Section 1280.1 further prohibits the carrying of firearms on school property, including college and university buildings or grounds, unless otherwise provided by law.
