YAL Urges Florida Republicans to Strengthen Gun Bill, Enact Constitutional Carry

With pro-gun legislation advancing in Florida, Young Americans for Liberty (YAL)—the nation’s most active youth liberty organization—is urging the state’s lawmakers to strengthen the bill and enact full-fledged Constitutional Carry. As it currently stands, the legislation contains a concealed carry provision but not “open carry,” which is a key component of the Constitutional Carry that YAL has so often supported and helped implement across America in recent years.

To date, the organization’s Hazlitt Coalition—a growing network of more than 320 pro-liberty legislators from over 40 states—has helped enact constitutional carry in states like Alabama, Kentucky, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, Texas, and Utah. In the process, tens of millions of Americans are now more free.

YAL implores Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and other Republicans to support the Second Amendment to the fullest extent possible and bring Constitutional Carry to the Sunshine State, which can join 25 other states in doing so. In Florida, YAL has knocked nearly 2,000 doors, made almost 15,000 phone calls, and sent more than 35,000 text messages in support of Constitutional Carry, and the organization remains active.

Below is a statement from YAL Chief Strategy Officer Brendan Steinhauser:

“Governor DeSantis has a great opportunity to lead on true Constitutional Carry in Florida. This would include both concealed carry and open carry—not the watered down ‘counterfeit carry’ that some legislators are pushing in Tallahassee. Twenty-five states have already passed Constitutional Carry, and Florida should be next. We encourage Gov. DeSantis to demand that a true Constitutional Carry bill carries the day in Florida.”
