Story:

Merritt Burch and two fellow YAL members were tabling during their student activity fair. Burch and his colleagues observed other student organization leaders walking around engaging with students, so Burch did the same. An administrator ordered Burch and her companion to stop approaching students and get back behind their table, dismissing Burch’s protest about her constitutional rights. One week later, another administrator reiterated the rule against passing out literature, telling students they could do so only in the designated free speech zone. “This isn’t really the ’60s anymore, [and] people can’t really protest like that anymore,” the administrator stated. Since taking their school to court, the entire campus has been made available for free speech, and the students were awarded $50,000 for attorney’s fees and damages.
