In what has arguably been Young Americans for Liberty’s most highly covered case, Kellogg Community College finally agreed to settle the lawsuit for $55,000.
In the fall of 2016 YAL activist, and KCC student, Shelly Gregoire was distributing pocket Constitutions with Isaac Edikauskas, and Nathan Berning.
The trio were confronted by the administration on numerous occasions. At one point the administration stated “I am simply trying to protect the rural students that may not have grown up with WI-Fi. They don’t know how to respond to questions like ‘would you like a Constitution?’ or ‘Do you like freedom?’”
After refusing to move to the school’s “free speech zones” the activists were arrested and spent the evening in county jail.
The students contacted the Alliance Defending Freedom who helped the students file the lawsuit and see its way to Constitutional policies.
