Story:

For the inaugural event of the 2017-2018 Fight for Free Speech season, state chair Benjamin Waldman, and Chapter President Andrew Nemeth took to campus with one of our infamous Free Speech Balls.

The two were rocking and rolling for a few hours. During this time, the University began emailing Andrew telling him he “needed to reserve space,” and “come into the office to discuss your plans.” After ignoring these pleas, the administration inevitably came out to tell Andrew he needed to go to the Free Speech Zone on campus.

The university stated that this wasn’t an infringement on your rights, but more of a declaration that the students wanted to use their rights. Sounds an awful lot like why we have the First Amendment in the first place. After reaching out to the Alliance Defending Freedom, Andrew and the attorneys drafted a letter advising the University to review, revise, and reform their speech policies. The University headed our advice, under the threat of legal action, and granted students the broadest latitude possible to engage in speech on campus.
