Story:

After more than two years, activists with YAL and the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) have successfully overturned the unconstitutional student speech policies at St. Cloud State University.

The controversy began in Feb. 2018 when YAL Deputy Regional Director Dan Stuart began coordinating with YAL chapter president Cole Uecker to bring attention to the school’s policies, which included “free speech zones.” Further, assembling on any place outside these zones required pre-approval from the administration.

Throughout 2018 and 2019, Stuart and Uecker organized several free speech events on the campus directly challenging these unconstitutional policies. Then, in May 2020, ADF sent a letter to the administration on Uecker’s behalf notifying them that, if they did not bring their student speech policies in line with the U.S. Constitution, they would face potential legal action. Ten days later, ADF confirmed that the university had finally changed their speech policies.
