In a remarkable display of persistence and dedication, our activists at the University of North Texas (UNT) achieved a significant victory for free speech. For months, Mark Anderson and Ryan Dickson, supported by Student Rights Inc. and the Student Rights Campaign (SRC), tirelessly campaigned to ensure the UNT administration took a definitive stand on First Amendment rights. This fight, initially spearheaded by Student Rights Inc., saw Ryan employing a multifaceted strategy that included relentless petitioning, public forums, and daily tabling on campus to rally student support. In this fight the minority of conservative students were being silenced on campus and speakers were being shouted down.
His unwavering determination and grassroots activism created a wave of pressure that the administration could not ignore. Ultimately, UNT revised its handbook to firmly defend the free speech rights of its 49,000 students. This victory is a testament to the collaborative efforts of Student Rights Inc. and SRC, and the power of collective activism, inspiring future efforts to safeguard liberty and justice.
